The Rungenberg spoil tip in the Gelsenkirchen suburb of Buer might be regarded as the "local tip" of the Schüngelberg housing estate which is located at its foot to the east. The tip was created from waste material taken from the Hugo/Ewald coalmine. From the nearby A2 motorway it looks like a bare black mountain. Walkers can reach the top by climbing one of the many paths running around the tip from Horster Straße or the Schüngelberg housing estate.The quickest way to the top is to take the bridge over the Lanfer stream on Holthauser Straße and climb the 300 or so steps to the twin-peaked pyramid.
