The "Ruhr visitor centre" is situated on the 24 metre level of the old coal washing plant. It can be reached via a 55 metre long rolling staircase. Here visitors can get comprehensive information on all the cultural and tourist attractions in the Ruhr metropolitan area, including the "Industrial Heritage Trail", the "European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010" and the Zollverein World Heritage site. Above the visitor centre visitors can embark on a multimedia journey through the region in the "Industrial heritage portal". The new Ruhr Museum is also housed in the former coal washing plant. Tours of the "Path of Coal" in the imposing industrial monument also start in the visitor centre.
