Theme Trails - an authentic insight |
Our tour of Essen begins in the Villa Hügel, once the centre of a power which exerted a decisive influence on both the city and the nation. Here a myth was born. The trail introduces visitors to the various stages of the history of Krupp and the city of Essen itself. They exemplify the development of the city during the rise and fall of heavy industry. Although " Kruppstadt" was destroyed in a hail of bombs at the end of the war there are more memories to be unearthed here than even local experts would believe.
You have a choice of three trails: "The south of Essen featuring the Villa Hügel and the Krupp family" , " Krupp and his influence on the city of Essen" and " The former ‘Krupp-stadt'" . Of course garden housing estates like Margarethenhöhe and the former number VIII Engineering Workshop, now the Colosseum musical theatre are widely known. But that's not all by a long chalk! And afterwards you'll be sure to know the meaning of the " Three Rings" in the firm's coat of arms.
